What you will learn
- To explain the relationship between workspace and Syntax.
- “Why might Lint not find the authorization error?” To give a reasoned answer to the question.
- Changing the example and comparing expected and observed behavior.
How it works and where the trust boundary lies
Syntax checking, formatting, and behavioral testing answer different questions. First select the correct PHP binary, then check the parsing of the file. Limit extensions to need; Evaluate the data flow of plugins that send code to the external service. Instead of dismissing an alert, understand the condition under which it was generated.
Worked example
The following passage makes the concept visible. Evaluate samples containing commands or code in your own separate testing environment, not in the production system. Architectural diagrams and policy examples are not executable programs.
php -l index.php
php -l akademi/index.phpExpected result and interpretation
No syntax errors detected indicates that parsing was successful; It does not indicate the correctness of the business rule.
Compare the scenarios
| Status | Recommended approach | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| Syntax is wrong | lint failed | Resource cannot be parsed |
| Authority decision is wrong | Behavioral testing required | Current code may make wrong decision |
| File is correct, wrong PHP | Validate interpreter path | Multiple installations may exist |
Practice task
Remove the semicolon in the test file and compare the editor and terminal warnings; then fix it.
- Write down the expected outcome and acceptance condition before the action.
- Change a single variable; Record the observation and the medium you used.
- Evaluate the result with the comparison table above. Explain which assumption might be wrong if it does not fit.
Common mistake and how to correct it
Do not export secret keys via screen sharing or plug-in configuration.
Test your understanding
Why might Lint not find the permission error?
Answer explained: The wrong authorization decision can be written with valid syntax; The behavior scenario should also be tested.
