SIBERSALDIRI.COM · FOCUSED LESSON
What you will learn
- Explain the relationship between Server ID and User key.
- “Is the host key and the user private key the same?” To give a reasoned answer to the question.
- Changing the example and comparing expected and observed behavior.
How it works and where the trust boundary lies
Compare the key fingerprint from the trusted channel on the first connection. Changing host key can also be caused by legitimate reinstallation; Do not blindly delete the warning. Limit private key access, do not use unnecessary agent forwarding. On the server side, user authority and allowed commands can be designed as separate policies.
Worked example
The following passage makes the concept visible. Evaluate samples containing commands or code in your own separate testing environment, not in the production system. Architectural diagrams and policy examples are not executable programs.
Bağlantı kontrolü:
Sunucu → host key parmak izi
Kullanıcı → yetkili anahtar
Oturum → minimum izin
Çıkış → anahtar iptal/rotasyon süreciExpected result and interpretation
Control separates server identity from user identity.
Compare the scenarios
| Status | Recommended approach | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| new host key | Compare from trusted channel | The first identity link is established |
| Changed host key | Verify the reason | Reinstallation or risk may occur |
| User key revoked | Deauthorize the server | Deleting the file from the client is not enough |
Practice task
Write down which reliable inventory you will refer to for verification when changing the host key.
- Write down the expected outcome and acceptance condition before the action.
- Change a single variable; Record the observation and the medium you used.
- Evaluate the result with the comparison table above. Explain which assumption might be wrong if it does not fit.
Common mistake and how to correct it
Do not disable authentication to get rid of the warning.
Test your understanding
Are the host key and the user private key the same?
Answer explained: No. One is the server ID and the other is used in the user's authentication process.
