SIBERSALDIRI.COM · FOCUSED LESSON
What you will learn
- To explain the relationship between observation and the Chain hypothesis.
- “What is the key benefit of the model?” To give a reasoned answer to the question.
- Changing the example and comparing expected and observed behavior.
How it works and where the trust boundary lies
Instead of evaluating an alert solely by a single IP indicator, place it in the context of access, execution, and subsequent action. For each stage, write down which record source will provide visibility. Detection, prevention and response are different types of control. Incomplete telemetry does not necessarily indicate that the phase did not occur; Maintain ambiguity in the report.
Worked example
The following passage makes the concept visible. Evaluate samples containing commands or code in your own separate testing environment, not in the production system. Architectural diagrams and policy examples are not executable programs.
Olay → zaman → varlık → davranış → kontrol
Örnek: beklenmeyen süreç → uç nokta kaydı
Sonraki soru: bağlantı veya kalıcılık belirtisi var mı?Expected result and interpretation
The model generates the question to be investigated; It alone does not determine the identity of the attacker.
Compare the scenarios
| Status | Recommended approach | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| One warning | chain hypothesis | The whole incident is unknown |
| Phase not visible | Check telemetry | There may be no evidence of absence |
| Behavior related | Match time and entity | False correlation is reduced |
Practice task
Place three observations in the fictional event on the timeline and mark the missing evidence.
- Write down the expected outcome and acceptance condition before the action.
- Change a single variable; Record the observation and the medium you used.
- Evaluate the result with the comparison table above. Explain which assumption might be wrong if it does not fit.
Common mistake and how to correct it
Do not report the unobserved phase as not occurring.
Test your understanding
What is the key benefit of the model?
Answer explained: Linking individual alerts to associated research questions and defensive scope.
